Though he was a high school dropout and went instead to the Air Force afterwards, the smartness in his humor cannot be denied. “The Seven Words You Cannot Say On Television” was the routine which served as Carlin’s ticket to extreme popularity. However, he also gained legal notoriety out of this act and was arrested after doing one public performance. A landmark ruling later on stated that Carlin’s material was indecent and should be restricted broadcast so that children wouldn’t have the chance to watch them.
