Ever wondered what goes on behind stage at Broadway Well the hit musical 42nd street finally
allows you to go behind the scenes. This genius Broadway stage musical was produced by David
Merrick and the original star studded cast included Jerry Orbach, Patrick Cassidy and Shirley
Jones, just to name a few.
The story begins with a chorus girl named Peggy Sawyer who tries to make it on Broadway. Luckily
she is cast to the newest play in town called Pretty Lady. As the play progresses she is pursued by
two different men in attempts to win her affection. more
For reasons too good to give away, Peggy is
fired but is lured back to take on the head role in her play with a song that has never been
forgotten on Broadway ever since, "The Lullaby of Broadway."
42nd street has quite a history with Broadway. It originally opened in 1980 and was then closed
down by 1989. Broadway tickets became available again when this play was revived in 2001.
Ironically enough, it opened on 42nd Street in New York City and was seen at the Ford Center for
the Performing Arts. Once it opened back up, 42nd Street won Tony Awards for best Actress in a
Musical, (Christine Ebersole), and best Musical Revival. 42nd Street closed it's doors again in
January 2005, but dont doubt a third time around for this exciting musical. Keep your eyes open
for the chance to get these exciting Broadway tickets and experience the "Lullaby" yourself! less
