About A Raisin in the Sun

Raisin in the Sun is about a working-class family where every member dreams of bigger and better things then the measly apartment they currently reside at. They play centers on proving that the black satisfaction of the 50s was a myth. The audience really gets a sense of how hard it is to live the way this family does as the stage manages to squeeze five people into a one room apartment.

Originally Raisin in the Sun hired on such influential actors as Sidney Poitier, Ruby Dee, Roy Glenn and Claudia McNeil in 1960. These actors later went on to make a movie out of this powerful Broadway play. Although Raisin in the Sun is no longer on the theatre stage, it has made so many comebacks that its never certain that Raisin in the Sun tickets wont be available again.
