Ain’t Misbehavin’ is a recently revived Broadway musical starring American Idol’s Frenchie Davis and Ruben Studdard. The musical is based on the Harlem Renaissance that took place in the nightclubs of New York in the 1920’s and 1930’s. Focusing on the musical aspect of the Renaissance, the musical uses music from Thomas Wright “Fats” Waller to recreate the swinging feeling of hope and creativity so prominent at the time. Five performers sit at the piano to entertain audiences with humorous songs such as “Ain’t Misbehavin’”, “Honeysuckle Rose”, and “I’m Gonna Sit Right Down and Write Myself a Letter”. The original Broadway version first premiered in 1978. A West End production premiered in 1979. A Broadway revival was initiated in 1988 where the production ran for 176 performances. Ain’t Misbehavin’ was revived for a second time in 2008 for the 30th Anniversary of the show. It is expected to last through the spring of 2009.
