About the show Caroline, or Change

Caroline, or Change tells us a story about Caroline Thibodeaux (the title character) who is a black maid in the house of a Jewish family. The story happens in Lake Charles (Louisiana in 1963) during the American civil rights movement. During the events of the musical John Kennedy was assassinated which also influenced the flow of the story. The country was shaked by the Civil Rights Movement. One of the musicals main themes is segregation.

The story is not at all a happy end story. On the contrary, it is filled with sadness, racial and social problems, and misunderstandings. The world around the characters is packed with sorrow and tragic events and probably thats why they resist so much to all the changes that happen around.
