Combining two circus traditions, Kooza explores acrobatics and clowning to tell the story of a sad loner looking for his place in the world. He encounters comic characters (the King, Trickster, Pickpocket, Tourist) that all utilize slapstick humor to showcase the themes of laughter, turmoil, fear, identity and power. Montreal, Quebec, Canada was the host to Kooza’s premiere in the spring of 2007. The show is inspired by Middle Eastern Culture. It contains a “bataclan”, a large traveling tower, which moves across the stage reconfiguring the performance space. David Shiner was the director for the show. He is a veteran clown of the Cirque du Soleil. The acts include: balancing on chairs, contortion, high wire, juggling, trapeze, unicycle, and the grand finale wheel of death.
