The Gypsy Story

“Gypsy” is a musical that has had quite the busy production extravaganza throughout the years. The musical first hit the big time in 1959 in which it opened at the Broadway Theatre. The production is said to be based on the memoirs of Gypsy Rose Lee, which portrays a story of a stage mother that will stop at nothing to hit the big time as she pushes her daughter’s career. “Gypsy” features music from Jule Styne and Lyrics from Stephen Sondheim. The Broadway hit had also set its sights on a motion picture in 1963 and TV movie in 1993. The show has featured several revivals in few major cities but mostly New York. The show is currently touring at the St. James Theatre in New York City, which has been the latest revival of the hit musical. Theater fans can truly appreciate this performance as it is not at their disposal every year and they certainly do not want to miss the opportunity to experience the excitement “Gypsy” brings with every show.
