One of the oldest, most known, and well, most amazing musical out in theatre is Joseph and the
Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. This musical theatre was the second show done by Andrew Lloyd Webber
and Time Rice and was brought to Broadway at the Royale Theatre in New York in 1982. This duo has
also completed Jesus Christ Superstar and Andrew Lloyd Webber has also done the classics of Evita,
CATS, Phantom of the Opera, and Starlight Express. Joseph was originally performed in school
cafeterias in London until the reviews started flying in and this remarkable duo realized what an
impact Joseph really had.
Joseph was filmed from the 1999 production that featured a star cast that included Donny Osmond,
Joan Collins, Maria Friedman, and Richard Attenborough. This isnt just a bible story
reinterpreted, it includes comedy, struggle and even Elvis, as a clever version of Pharoah. Josephs
coat is not the only prop in the play that is vibrant with color, every scene is full of fun stage
sets, animals, and costumes. Come get Joseph tickets and watch how this amazing man, interprets
dreams from jail and becomes one of the most important men in all of egypt.
Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor dreamcoat is based upon the bible story of Joseph found in
Genesis. The Broadway version is especially directed toward kids not only because the narrator is
teaching kids on stage, but because it is a fun and exciting way to learn about religious stories.
Its a beautiful story of sibling rivalry, jealousy, faith, and triumph. The entire theatre
production is sung, there is no actual dialogue, which makes the musical even more powerful. Its a
great way to teach anyone how to be a strong individual and Josephs story manages to stay away
from the pure religious discussion of God. So make sure to see this long time running powerful
musical and sing along as the crowd cheers Go, Go, Go Joseph.
