Matilda Primed to Take Over Broadway in 2013

Every year there is a show that captivates the world of musical theatre, and this year the show that’s rising to the top is the much anticipated Broadway adaptation of Roald Dahl’s beloved children’s story, Matilda. The record-setting show is already an extraordinary hit in the London West End, where it was created by Britain’s Royal Shakespeare Company in 2010. Across the pond, the show has claimed seven Olivier Awards, which are the British equivalent of the Tonys, including the award for Best New Musical. Now the story of the rebellious, telekinetic kid who gets the best of her parents and wicked schoolmasters with her wild imagination and magic power is ready to take over America.

The production will be directed by Tony Award-winner Matthew Warchus, who’s known for his work on “God of Carnage,” and it will feature lyrics and music by Australian musician and comedian Tim Minchin. Matilda marveled fans as a film back in 1996, and from the looks of it, it will be an even better experience on stage. Matilda is set to begin previews on March 4^th at the Shubert Theatre in New York City, with the official opening date slated for April 11^th.
