Legendary Tale of Motown Records Taking Over Broadway in 2013

It’s hard to imagine a world without the musical contributions of legends like Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Diana Ross, and Smokey Robinson; but it’s easy to forget that they all got their start in Hitsville, U.S.A., with the great Motown record label. Now, the triumphant tale of Berry Gordy, the incredible musicians he worked with, and their timeless music is set to hit the Broadway stage and it’s sure to be one of the year’s biggest hits. Written by Gordy himself, “Motown: The Musical” will tell the stories behind the timeless hits and chart the history of the record label that’s captivated generations of fans and changed the world of American music forever.

In what’s surely one of the season’s most highly-anticipated events, Motown: The Musical will be directed Charles Randolph-Wright and Brandon Victor Dixon, known for his work on “The Colour Purple,” will star as Gordy. Alongside him Valisia Lekae, from the Book of Mormon, will play Diana Ross. Previews for the show are set for March 11^th, and the official opening will be on April 14th.
