About the Pageant of Masters


The Festival of the Arts first premiered in 1932 in Laguna Beach, California. It was, a festival to celebrate the arts of course. At the festival, Lolita Perine convinced residents to dress in the corresponding costume while she proceeded to recreate works of art with her live models behind a frame. The following year, the idea was recreated once again. In 1934, Roy Ropp, a developer, critiqued the board of the pageant stating bluntly that the “Spirit of the Masters” was a poorly put on production.  more
