Numbers don’t lie—and when a performance like Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Phantom of the Opera has been seen by over 130 million people worldwide, has grossed over $5.6 billion and has won over 50 theatre awards, it definitely makes a statement. The beloved opera tells the story of a masked figure who lives beneath the Paris Opera House, causing terror and fear for all those who dare to venture there. He winds up falling in love with Christine, a soprano at the opera house, and winds up devoting his time to turn her into a new star. Fans will get the chance to see the epic performance throughout the remainder of 2013 and into 2014 when the phantom goes on tour in select cities across the U.S.
The Phantom of the Opera Broadway will continue to run for the 27th year at Her Majesty’s Theatre in London, England, but New York is still holding down the vast majority of stateside performances, which run from April 8-Aug. 31 at the Majestic Theatre in New York, N.Y. The show, which is the longest running production in the history of Broadway, will be hitting the road in December after a short hiatus. The first stop will be the Orpheum Theatre in Minneapolis, Minn. (Dec. 13-Jan. 5), followed by 2014 dates at the Fox Cities Performing Arts Center in Appleton, Wis. (Jan. 8-19), Ohio Theatre in Columbus, Ohio (March 5-16), Aronoff Center in Cincinnati, Ohio (April 30-May 11), and the Boston Opera House in Boston, Mass. (June 11-July 20).
