Walking with Dinosaurs was originally a television series produced by the BBC that first aired in 1999. The show was narrated by Kenneth Branagh for the U.K. version and by Avery Brooks for the U.S. version, which aired on the Discovery Channel. The show was so expensive to film minute by minute that it made it into the Guinness Book of Records.
To place the audience in the Mesozoic era, animatronics and computer-generated imagery are utilized. Using paleontologists Peter Dodson, Peter Larson and James Farlow, the goal of the live show was to simulate life as it happened during the time in the style of a nature documentary (thus it didn’t use any talking head interviews). more
The live show version of the series started touring in 2007 in Australia. The show contains giant life-size mechanical dinosaurs that are controlled by puppeteers and drivers. The direction of the show was left up to Scott Faris and produced by Malcolm C. Cooke and Jill Bryant. less
