Fenway Park is home to the 2007 World Series Champion Boston Red Sox. Not only is it used for the Red Sox, but for other events including the futures at Fenway and big name concerts. It is the oldest ball park in Major League Baseball, with the gates opening on April 20th, 1912. After the Boston Pilgrims became the Boston Red Sox, in 1910, owner Charles Henry Taylor decided to build his team a new stadium, which would be called Fenway Park because of its location in the Fenway section of Boston. Fenway Park can hold approximately 38,000 fans.
The stadium would remain unchanged for 14 years, where a fire destroyed bleachers along the left field line in which the owner at the time could not afford to rebuild. After another fire in 1934, the stadium got a new look as it was rebuilt just before the start of the season. Concrete bleachers took the place of old wooden ones, a 23 ½ foot tall screen was added to protect surround businesses, and in 1947, the Green Monster was born as the giant 37 foot wall once covered in advertisements was painted green. The 1940’s saw the addition of bullpens, sky view seats and lights. A message board was added in 1976 and in 2003 seats were added on top of the Green Monster. Fenway Park can hold approximately 38,000 fans. Other than those changes, Fenway Park has remained the much loved ballpark it still is today.
