The arena was quickly erected and finished after only a little over a year on October 20, 1996, roughly in time for the start of the NHL season for the Tampa Bay Lightning. Since the buildings completion, it has undergone three management changes, finally resting under the control of William Davidson who sold naming rights to St. Petersburg Times, a local Tampa Bay newspaper. For hockey games, basketball games, and concerts, the St. Pete Times Forum seating chart can comfortably accommodate up to 19,500; 20,500; and 21,500 people respectively. In the not too distant future, the St. Pete Times Forum will play host to numerous NCAA championship events including NCAA hockey Frozen Four.
