2019 College Football Championship Predictions and Winning Odds

The day is almost upon us. On January 7th, the 2019 NCAA National Championships will kick off as the Alabama Crimson Tide and Clemson Tigers battle for the crown. Its going to be nothing short of an epic matchup. Youve got the defending champions, the Crimson Tide, looking to secure another championship, while the Clemson Tigers look to stop a winning streak before it happens. With that said, were going to take a look at the predictions and odds of the championship game. You might find that they already align with your own predictions or they might differ. Lets take a look!

Alabama vs ClemsonThe 2019 NCAA National Championship Odds

As many of you have already guessed, the Alabama Crimson Tide are the favorites. Early results from the Westgate put Alabama as a 6.5-point favorite, while BetOnline favored Alabama by 9-points. SportsLine also predicts that the Crimson Tide will be the champions, and have listed them as a 6-point favorite. But not everyone sees Alabama as the side to come out victorious. Bleacher Report has predicted that Clemson will come out with a close victory over Alabama, predicting a score of 37-34. A case can be made for both sides, considering the sheer dominance of Alabama this season as well as Clemsons significantly improved offense.

Alabama vs. Clemson: A Quick Comparison

Heres a quick a reminder: Both teams have faced each other before and both have won championship titles. As it stands, Alabama has won two championships, and Clemson, one. But heres the kicker - Alabama beat Clemson in the 2016 NCAA National Championship, 35-31. So Clemson is no doubt looking to avenge that loss come January 7th. Now for the nitty-gritty. Alabama has a formidable offense, that can (and usually does) bulldoze any team once they find a good rhythm. Case in point, Alabama trampled over Oklahoma, bringing the game to a 28-0 score with less than two minutes played in the second quarter. Alabamas offensive line in actionWith that said, the Crimson Tide have shown some vulnerability - theyll force turnovers if backed into a corner. Georgia did it to them in the SEC championship, almost bringing Alabama to a loss. If Clemson can do the same, theres a chance for them to seize a win no matter how narrow that may be. Lets not forget the leagues favorite, Tua Tagovailoa. Hes dealt with his share of injuries but when hes in good health, theres no team out there with a strong enough defense to shut him or Alabamas wide receivers down.

The Rise of Clemsons Offense

One problem that Alabama has on their hands, however, is Clemsons Trevor Lawrence. He silenced any doubts about his lack of big-game experience by dominating at the Cotton Bowl. He threw for 327 yards and three touchdowns, all three of which came in the second quarter. Not only was this performance a milestone for his very young career, but also, a demonstration of what he could produce against the Crimson Tide. Trevor LawrenceThe danger for Alabama is that Lawrence can pick apart their defense with the wide receivers he has at his side. Were talking about the powerhouse quartet of Justyn Ross, Tee Higgins, Amari Rodgers, and Hunter Renfrow - all of whom Lawrence can connect with at ease. Alabama wont be able to contain them all and with Lawrences pass precision, there will be opportunities for these receivers to reach deep and score some big touchdowns.

A Killer Matchup

Another factor to look at here - one thats going to lead to an edge-of-your-seat battle - is the matchup of Alabamas running backs versus Clemsons defensive line. The Tigers interior group has plenty of depth and should be able to hold off Alabama in ways that other teams have failed to do. However, the Crimson Tides running back trio - Damien Harris, Najee Harris, and Josh Jacobs, will force Clemsons defensive line to play with all available effort. And with their first-round prospect Jonah Williams on Alabamas offensive line, its quite likely that the Tigers will fold when the pressure rises. So the bottom line is this: Alabama has the advantage here and should take the championship home. Clemson will put on a good fight, perhaps even exploiting some of Alabamas weaknesses at times, but the Crimson Tide will ultimately shake them off.

2019s NCAA National Championship - A Finale for the Ages

Were just a few days out from the biggest night in college football and what will be one of the greatest championship games in the college football playoff history. Although Alabama has the clear advantage, Clemson will prove to be a challenging opponent for Alabama especially if their weaknesses show face (namely, their turnovers). Regardless of the results, were expecting the game to be an intense, if not, memorable battle for the college football throne. The championship game takes place at 5:00 p.m. (PST) Monday, January 7th 2019 at Levis Stadium in Santa Clara, California.
