5 Great 2019 Albums from Touring & Charting Artists

March 19, 2019

2018 was an exciting year in music for both artists and their fans. There were exciting debuts from promising upstarts, artists returning from longstanding hiatuses, and musicians who finally reached their peaks.

2019 is poised to be just as riveting, if not more. Were going to take a look at five 2019 albums, some of that have been released by artists who are currently touring and topping the charts.

Ariana Grande - thank u, next

Released: February 8th, 2019

Genre: Pop / R&B / Trap

Ariana Grandes last two years have no doubt thrown her on an emotional roller coaster of sorts. First, she dealt with PTSD due to the horrific terror attacks at her 2016 Manchester concert. Then came the death of her ex-boyfriend, rapper Mac Miller and the broken-off engagement with her ex-fiance, comedian Pete Davidson. She used her tribulations to produce the critically-acclaimed Sweetener in 2018, and has started 2019 on a high note with thank u, next. It, too, is critically acclaimed with Arianas vulnerability, longing, complexities, and swagger unraveling on various tracks. It also has the earworms that will be the sound of 2019 - thank u, next, 7 Rings and break up with your girlfriend, im bored. Ms. Grandes latest offering is proof that she can take life by the horns and own it, no matter whats thrown in her direction.

Backstreet Boys - DNA

Released: January 23rd, 2019

Genre: Pop

These former teen heartthrobs arent boys anymore considering that most of them are now husbands and dads. Nevertheless, the iconic band of five captured their youthful sound of the 90s in 2019 without sounding dated or out-of-touch.

On DNA, their latest offering, the group experiments with contemporary sounds ranging from mid-tempo dance tracks to more synth-driven pop and even country songs. And none of it sounds contrived.

DNA will definitely delight those who have reserved a spot for the Backstreet Boys in their hearts. And thats a treat for fans who still remember them as those fresh-faced kids with the golden voices.

James Blake - Assume Form

Released: January 18th, 2019

Genre: Pop / Electropop / R&B

Prior to 2019, James Blakes most recent album was the highly successful The Colour in Anything (2016). Since then, he had moved from London to Los Angeles, working on production for other artists such as Kendrick Lamar. However, in the wake of his busy schedule emerged his fourth album, Assume Form.

It is an exploration of various themes including mental health, romance, and self-reflection - with beautiful results. Listeners will be gifted with a range of sounds (haunting, entrancing, bouncy), emotions (nostalgic, melancholic, blissful), and guests (Travis Scott, ROSALIA, Andre 3000). Assume Form captures James Blake at his purest - experimental, vulnerable, bold.

Genre: Indie-Folk

Beirut has released an eclectic mix of musical offerings throughout the years, incorporating a world of sounds ranging from Eastern European to Mexican. Sharon Van Etten - Remind Me Tomorrow

Released: January 18th, 2019

Genre: Indie Rock / Alternative Rock

Sharon Van Etten has returned with her fifth full-length album, Remind Me Tomorrow, throwing her current fans a curveball in terms of what to expect from her music. With that said, the album comes with a maximalist style of percussion-heavy songs such as Seventeen and Comeback Kid. Lyrically, Remind Me Tomorrow features some of Van Ettens most emotionally raw songwriting. Despite its direction, the album highlights her multi-hyphenate abilities as a singer/songwriter/composer/producer and doesnt at all fall flat.
