50th Anniversary The Who Tour to Hit North America in 2015

October 10, 2014 by Alyssa

Tour Announcement

Starting in April 2015, The Who will bring its 50th anniversary celebration across the pond to North American fans for two separate legs of an extensive arena venture. Featuring more than 40 dates, The Who tour 2015 will mark the first time the group has performed stateside in more than two years. Originally formed in 1964, the British rock outfit has changed the landscape of rock over the past five decades, not only with its long list of iconic albums, but also with some of the most memorable live concerts of all time.

The Who’s rise to become one of the most storied rock groups in music history began in 1965 when its fourth single, “My Generation,” hit the top 10 on charts in seven countries. By that time, the band had solidified its classic lineup to include Roger Daltrey on vocals, Pete Townshend on guitar, Keith Moon on drums, and John Entwistle on bass. Less than a year into their career, these four musical geniuses had already earned a reputation for their outrageous, destructive antics on stage.

Over the years, the band would hone its status as one of the best live acts in rock history with a number of legendary concert ventures; in fact, there was at least one international The Who tour every year in its first decade from 1965-1975. In between headlining shows, the group also delivered some of the most memorable festival sets of any band of its generation, including its famed early-morning performance at Woodstock 1969.

In recent years, The Who has earned well-deserved recognition from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, GRAMMY Hall of Fame, and Kennedy Center Honors, in addition to securing seven slots on Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Albums of All Time list. Surviving members Daltrey and Townshend have kept the legacy of this incredible group alive with a handful of reunion tours that have given new generations the chance to experience timeless tracks like “Pinball Wizard,” “Baba O’Riley,” “Won’t Get Fooled Again,” and “Quadrophenia” live.

The first leg of The Who tour 2015 will kick off in April, and its 20 dates will stretch through the end of May. In the fall, starting in mid-September, the band will return for two dozen additional concerts, including a handful of shows in Canada. Ahead of the North American dates, The Who will be on stage in its native U.K. in November and December of 2014. You can secure your spot at an upcoming date of the anniversary trek with The Who tickets from Vivid Seats.

Though there hasn’t been any official set list announced for The Who Hits 50! Tour, Daltrey and Townshend confirmed in the official announcement that they plan to perform a smattering of greatest hits from iconic albums like its 1965 debut, My Generation, 1969’s Tommy, 1971’s Who’s Next, and 1973’s Quadrophenia, in addition to a select few deep cuts.
