With the new NHL season rapidly approaching (games begin October 4th and 5th will special matches in Prague and Stockholm), the Pittsburgh Penguins have had plenty of time to ruminate on last year's fantastic Stanley Cup Playoffs where they ultimately lost in the finals to the Detroit Red Wings. Now they need to focus on the upcoming year and forget about everything that happened last year. More importantly, they need to ignore the historical statistics that weigh heavily against the team who lost the previous year's Stanley Cup Finals. Of the last 12 teams that lost the Stanley Cup Finals series, only one has gone to the playoffs and moved past the first series. Four of the twelve teams have missed the playoffs entirely. The Penguins need to ignore these facts, however, if they wish to at least repeat last season. Though the Penguins have lost a few key players since last year's run, they have also gained some bright new prospects; not to mention the fact that the core group of players who carried the Penguins to the Finals will also return. The Penguins just need to play hockey and not think about history. To check out Pittsburgh Penguins games go to our hockey tickets page.
