MTV Adding to List of 2013 VMA Performers

August 13, 2013 by Tim

2013 VMAS

The 2013 MTV Video Music Awards are just around the corner, and as the event date draws nearer, the list of performers seems to grow by the day. The group of artists scheduled to take the stage at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y., on Aug. 25 is as star-studded as ever, and now includes Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Kanye West, Robin Thicke, and Miley Cyrus. Plus, a potential “surprise” appearance by Daft Punk should the rumors prove true.

Some of the music stars are using the platform to give their fans the first live look at material from yet-to-be released albums. Perry, who last performed at the VMAs in 2009, will give her first live performance of her newest single, “Roar,” from her upcoming album, “Prism.”

Lady Gaga, who has turned heads with her live acts at the show in previous years, will use the opportunity to debut “Applause,” the new single off her upcoming “ARTPOP” album.

West, who has maintained a low profile in terms of live events since the birth of his daughter, will be performing “Black Skinhead” off his “Yeezus” album, which debuted at No. 1 after dropping in June.

Robin Thicke and Miley Cyrus, the voices behind the summer anthems “Blurred Lines” and “We Can’t Stop,” respectively, will also be on hand to perform their mega-hits live, while also going head-to-head for the Moonman in the new category, Best Song of the Summer.

Other nominees for the new award include “Best Song Ever” by One Direction – which is slated for a special appearance at the show – “Get Lucky” by Daft Punk, “I Need Your Love” by Calvin Harris and Ellie Goulding, and “Come and Get It” by Selena Gomez.

Thicke, who has never taken home a VMA, is also nominated for the night’s top honor in the Video of the Year category, where he will compete against Bruno Mars, Justin Timberlake, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, and Taylor Swift.

While the voting period for Video of the Year and most other major categories has come to a close, fans can still vote for Artist to Watch on MTV’s online and mobile sites or via Facebook or text. And, for the first time ever, fans will be able to cast their votes exclusively via social media for the Best Song of Summer.

To vote on Twitter, Instagram, or Vine, simply use #votemiley, #votedaftpunk, #voteselena, #voteonedirection, #votethicke, or #votecalvinandellie to cast your respective vote.
