Super Bowl Halftime Show

With less than a month to go before the history-making Super Bowl XLVIII takes over East Rutherford's MetLife Stadium, many were likely thinking that the only thing left to do was see which teams will be involved come Feb. 2. (As it stands, the possible contenders are the Denver Broncos, New England Patriots, Seattle Seahawks, and San Francisco 49ers).

In a welcome surprise, it appears that the NFL still had some tricks up its sleeve, however, as on Jan. 11 it was announced that the Rock and Roll Hall of Famers comprising the Red Hot Chili Peppers will join previously announced pop star Bruno Mars as the special guest for the highly anticipated Super Bowl halftime show.

In a year that will already give fans an historic event in the first-ever Super Bowl played in the confines of a "cold-weather" venue, the spectacle will now also feature not one, but two marquee, GRAMMY-winning acts for the musical performance of the year.

With a history that dates back to the late 70s, the Chili Peppers had already been established and released two albums by the time Mars was born in Oct. 1985. Despite the significant gaps in age, RHCP and Mars both bring impressive résumés to the table, having both found substantial success with fans and critics throughout their careers, as well as in album sales and on the tour circuit.

With the gig, the duo will join the ever-growing list of Super Bowl halftime show performers that already includes major names like Beyoncé, Madonna, The Who, Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, the Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney, and U2.

In preparation for the big gig, the Red Hot Chili Peppers will still honor its previously scheduled headlining duties at the Barclays Center the night before. Dubbed the WFAN Big Hello to Brooklyn, the Feb. 1 event also will include performances by New Politics, MS MR, J Roddy Watson and The Business, and Basic Vacation.

The concert will be just one of many official Super Bowl parties and festivities set to take place in the days leading up to the Super Bowl. Visit Vivid Seats for a complete breakdown of Super Bowl party tickets now available for purchase in the marketplace.
