Roger Waters Tour in the Works for 2016

May 06, 2016 by Alyssa

Roger Waters Live

UPDATE: Roger Waters is confirmed to perform at California's Desert Trip Festival in October, along with Paul McCartney, The Who, The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, and Neil Young. See more information about the new music festival.

Pink Floyd fans are going to have a lot to look forward to in the next year. Following David Gilmour's July announcement of a new album and tour to launch this fall, bassist Roger Waters is now making noise about doing the same in 2016.

In an Aug. 2 interview with Israeli newspaper Haaretz, Waters made it clear that he plans to head out on the road for another international concert venture sometime next year. At the time of the interview's publication, no Roger Waters tour dates have been set in stone for 2016. If the trek turns out to be anything like his 2010-2013 The Wall Tour, though, there should be plenty of chances to see Roger Waters live. Held over three years, that last tour boasted more than 200 concerts over six legs, with nearly half of its shows in North America.

Details of Waters' new album are also pending, but as the Haaretz interview notes, "everything Waters has written in the last few years has a political, mainly antiwar, aspect to it." As it stands, Waters hasn't released a new rock album since 1992. His last effort, 2005's "Ca Ira," was an opera.

A recent Roger Waters concert--part of Rhode Island's Newport Folk Festival--did feature the performance of one new song, "Crystal Clear." Apparently it also marked the first time that Waters has performed piano during a live show.

While awaiting confirmation of Roger Waters' tour schedule for 2016, his fans can look forward to his forthcoming concert film and documentary. Starting this fall, fans will be able to get a second-hand glimpse of the star's most recent, massive live venture. The film, appropriately titled "Roger Waters: The Wall," will make its global premiere on Sept. 29, following its 2014 premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival.
