This spring, Maryland’s famous Merriweather Post Pavilion will play host to a mammoth collection of artists as part of the Sweetlife 2015 Festival. The sixth annual installment of this eclectic two-day event will be held May 30-31, and the roster of performers confirmed on March 4 is shaping up to be one of the best in the fest’s history.
Kendrick Lamar Sets Spotify Record Weeks after Sweetlife 2015 Announcement
Fans of rap music have been looking forward to Kendrick Lamar’s third album for more than two years, so when the Compton native unexpectedly dropped “To Pimp a Butterfly” on the night of March 15, the news almost broke the Internet. Well, the album broke something on the Internet, anyway: Lamar’s fans shattered Spotify’s single-day streaming record by playing his songs 9.6 million times on March 16--and that number only includes songs listened to in full. According to the New York Times, the previous record-holder was Michael Buble, who racked up 9.5 million streams last Christmas Eve.
Lamar will surely be one of the most popular performers of the weekend thanks to this widely critically acclaimed new album. He’s one of many talented R&B acts featured on the Sweetlife 2015 lineup, with support including The Weeknd, Vic Mensa, and SZA.
Blend of Rock, Pop Fills in Remainder of Sweetlife Lineup
In total, Sweetlife 2015 will spotlight 26 unique acts over the course of the weekend, including Lamar’s co-headliner, Scottish electropop DJ Calvin Harris. Though a daily lineup is still pending, the weekend will include sets from a diverse range of performers, including the Pixies, Charli XCX, Billy Idol, Marina and the Diamonds, Bleachers, St. Paul and the Broken Bones, Tove Lo, Vance Joy, and many more.
