U2 Tour 2017 to Commemorate 30th Anniversary of The Joshua Tree

January 17, 2017 by Amy

U2 Tour 2017

North American dates for the next U2 tour were announced on Jan. 9, confirming rumors that it would be a stadium venture. Prior to the group's teaser on Christmas Day, in which they hinted at a commemorative tour in celebration of "The Joshua Tree's" 30th anniversary, it had been speculated that the next U2 outing would be for the long-awaited next album, "Songs of Experience," but it seems fans will still have to wait on that.

According to the 2017 U2 tour announcement, the band will play "The Joshua Tree" in its entirety at each show. Released back in 1987, “The Joshua Tree” was U2’s fifth album and boasts some of the band’s most enduring songs like “Where the Streets Have No Name,” “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For,” and “With or Without You.”

As an added bonus, the U2 Tour also will feature support from opening acts Mumford and Sons, The Lumineers, and OneRepublic, who will appear at various dates during the trek. U2 also is set to headline Bonnaroo in June, which will mark the band's first-ever festival headlining appearance in the U.S.

U2 to Return to Stadiums Across North America

No stranger to major stadium tours, U2 last plotted such a venture for the award-winning 360 Tour that spanned from 2009-11 and consisted of more than 100 shows worldwide.

Bono and Co. then proceeded to wait four years before returning to the road for 2014’s Innocence + Experience Tour, which only included arena shows, but was heralded for its extensive stage displays and cutting-edge sound.
