2014 Tour Dates Announced for Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
On May 20, after days of teasing via social media, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers confirmed dates for a 2014 North American tour with special guest, Steve Winwood. Regular summer outings have become a staple of the long-running group and for the first time in several years, the trek will coincide with the release of a brand new Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers album. The band’s 13th studio album, which also will be the first since 2010, is reportedly entitled “Hypnotic Eye,” and is set to be released on July 29, just a few before the start of the tour.
The venture will launch Aug. 3 from Viejas Arena in San Diego and from there, will hit just over 25 cities over a roughly two-month span. Many of the earlier dates will keep the band on the West Coast which also will coincide with its previously scheduled appearance at San Francisco’s Outside Lands Music and Arts Festival on Aug. 9. While Tom Petty and Co. are scheduled to hit a wide variety of familiar sites along the way, such as Washington’s The Gorge (Aug. 15), Chicago’s United Center (Aug. 23), and New York’s Madison Square Garden (Sept. 10), after decades of live performances, they also will finally make their debut at one of baseball’s most iconic venues. On Aug. 30, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers will take the stage at Fenway Park in Boston for the first time ever and the date also marks the only outdoor stadium show lined up for the 2014 trek.
