Matt Kenseth Sets Sights on Second Straight Win at Osram Sylvania 300
The second race in the Chase for the Sprint Cup will once again be the Osram Sylvania 300 when NASCAR action returns to the New Hampshire Motor Speedway in Loudon on Sept. 21. Entering the final regular-season race of the year, veteran Jeff Gordon remains atop the standings with 872 points, followed by Dale Earnhardt, Jr. (851) and Osram Sylvania 300 defending champ Matt Kenseth (794). Gordon has been dominant throughout 2014 and his three wins tie for the most of the year along with Earnhardt, Jr., Joey Logano, Brad Keselowski, and Jimmie Johnson.
In conjunction with qualification changes implemented beginning with this year’s Chase for the Sprint Cup, 15 drivers competing in the final races will earn a spot based on total victories instead of points, while the 16th will go to the driver with the most points but no win. In addition to the aforementioned group, other likely qualifiers include two-time victors Carl Edwards and Kevin Harvick. As of Sept. 5, the final spot would go to Kenseth whose 794 points is good for third place overall, but he still without a win heading into the 2014 Osram Sylvania 300.
