Vivid Seats Reveals Major League Baseball Preview with Price Trends and Most Popular Opening Day Matchups for 2017 Season

Based on the number of tickets sold on the Vivid Seats marketplace, the most popular Opening Day matchup features a battle of California teams – the San Diego Padres versus the Los Angeles Dodgers. The divisional rivalry matchup between the World Series champion Chicago Cubs and the St. Louis Cardinals is the second most popular Opening Day game. Last year’s World Series runner up, the Cleveland Indians, and their matchup with the Texas Rangers, rounds out the top three Opening Day games.

The price for regular season Major League Baseball tickets increased 14 percent (or $10 per ticket) to $82, on average, year-over-year. Other notable highlights include:

  • The Chicago Cubs have the highest average price at $130 per ticket. The World Series Champions’ regular season ticket sales increased by 55 percent for the upcoming season.
  • Atlanta Braves’ tickets prices are up 58 percent to $80 per ticket, the biggest increase in the league, likely due to increased demand as fans are excited to attend games in the team’s new stadium, SunTrust Park.
  • The Kansas City Royals saw the largest decrease in average ticket prices, declining 22 percent to $74.
