Amy Grant's parents are from Nashville but she was born in Augusta, GA in 1960. Her father, a doctor was doing his doctor's residency there and it wasn't long before the family returned home to Nashville. Amy Grant is the youngest of four daughters that all grew up with strong family loyalty and religious faith. The family attended church religiously and there she learned hymns and bible stories that would later inspire her career. During her early days in Nashville Amy first started dabbling in Christian music.

Though Amy Grant has been singing in her church and schools her rise as a professional musician and song writer was really by accident. It all started in a studio in Nashville where she had a part time work sweeping floors. Her friend, a producer, brown banister had allowed her to use the studio to duplicate a tape of her personal songs that she wanted to present to her family. By chance a Producer of World Records was in Nashville seeking new talents. He heard the music and played it over the phone for the executives of his company. Amy Grant who was just seventeen was signed and a successful music career that would span years began. She married Gary Chapman in 1982, three kids later they divorced. Five years later in 2000 she married Vince Gill and left Nashville.

Amy Grant's first album ‘Amy Grant' was released in 1977 and was a smash hit. Since then she has released about 19 albums including her smash hits collection of 2004. Famous album titles would include Never Alone in 1980 and Age to Age released in 1982. The album Age to Age earned her first Dove Award as well as a Grammy Award. This album had inspirational songs and placed her songs ‘El Shaddai' and ‘Sing your Praise to The Lord' on the hymn book. Her follow up album Straight Ahead also won another Dove and Grammy Award. Since then she went from success to success with many other albums.
