Jose Luis Feliciano Vega, well-known as Cheo Feliciano was born on 3 July 1935 at Puerto Rico in Ponce is a vocalist and a composer of bolero and salsa music. Feliciano was educated and brought up in town of Ponce which is situated in southern part of Puerto Rico. His nickname was "Cheo" which means Jose and is only used by his family and close friends. When Cheo was just eight years he created the first group with friends and titled it as "E1 Combo Las Latas".
Cheo moved with family to New York and settled in Spanish Harlem in 1952. more
On 5 October 1957, Cheo made his debut as a professional singer with the song "Perfidia",and was also married on the same day. He continued to sing for sextet for about 10 years.
Feliciano returned to music in 1972 and made the album "Cheo", his foremost solo recording, which broke all sales records in the Latino music market. In 1975 Cheo received the Golden Cup in Venezuela. In 1976, he was recognized as "Most Popular Artist" by Latin Magazine in New York. In 1977, he was awarded as Best Latin Singer by Daily News Front Page. Cheo presently stays in Puerto Rico and continues to record. less
