John Royce Mathis, popularly known worldwide as Johnny Mathis, is an American pop singer and a song writer who is also well versed with jazz and Latin music. Johnny Mathis sis considered to be the last among the male vocalist before the emergence of the popular rock style music in the 1960’s. Mathis started his career with many singles but found his place in the music industry as an album artist. He has recorded several albums and many of them have turned out to be gold and platinum hits. Johnny Mathis has sold about 350 million records and albums and has had about 73 albums making to the Billboard charts till date.

Johnny Mathis is considered to be the world’s best romantic singer and used to join in the family signing in his childhood days. His father, Clem Mathis, identified the singing talent in him and sent him to an operatic voice teacher where he learned lessons while doing household jobs for his teacher. Johnny Mathis was popular in school both as a musician as well as an athlete. It was the club owner Helen Noga, who was impressed with the jazz music at her night club, who called up Columbia Records repeatedly to listen to him.
