Formed in 1994, indie rap band from Placentia, CA, Kottonmouth Kings have become a powerful force in the underground rap scene. They have a particularly strong following in the Western United States and Southern California.
The musicians describe their style as “psychedelic hip-hop punk rock”. The band comprises former Humble Gods frontman Brad Daddy X, rappers DJ Bobby B, Saint Dog, D-Loc, and Pakelika. Kottonmouth Kings first attracted attention with their “Suburban Life” track. It appeared on the soundtrack from the movie Scream 2 and soon became a new rock radio hit. After recording an EP, entitled “Stoners Reeking Havoc”, on their own label in 1998, the band released the full-length Royal Highness on Capitol. “Hidden Stash” followed in 1999, and their 4th album, titled “High Society” pushed Kottonmouth Kings into the mainstream.
Following the release of the fourth album, Saint Dog left the band to pursue a solo career and to work together with his brother Big Hoss. Not long after the departure of the musician, Johnny Richter joined Kottonmouth Kings.
The band had gigs with Bionic Jive and D12 in 2001, which helped to further promote their mainstream success. Their sixth studio record, entitled Rollin’ Stoned, was released in October 2002. Kottonmouth Kings’ 2004 release, titled “Fire It Up”, came out in April 2004. The band returned in 2005 with their 11th release, a self-titled album that featured like-minded guest artists such as Tech N9ne and Cypress Hill.
