LCD Soundsystem is a musical project, conceived by producer James Murphy, dance-punk label DFA Records co-founder. The music of the band can be described as a mixture of punk and dance music with elements of disco, and other music styles.
The band attracted much attention with its first single, entitled “Losing My Edge”. In February of 2005, James Murphy released a double CD simply titled LCD Soundsystem to critical acclaim. The first disc of the record contains new music and the second one consists of re-releases of compositions previously released as singles. The opening track of the album “Daft Punk Is Playing at My House” quickly gained high popularity and entered the United Kingdom Top 40 in the spring of 2005. Later, it was featured on several video game soundtracks, including FIFA 06 and SSX on Tour.
In December 2005, LCD Soundsystem received 2 nominations for Grammy awards in the Electronica category for their 2005 release and in the Dance category for their opening track. This release was chosen as one of Amazon.com’s Top Hundred Editor’s Picks of 2005.
In the fall of 2006, Murphy released a new track titled “45:33” as part of a promotion with Nike for iTunes download. The track is almost 46 minutes long. It was designed to “reward and push at good intervals of a run”. The band’s second record is titled Sound of Silver. It was released in March 2007.
