The band has returned to their recording studio in order to record their first new material in 5 years. Steve Lillywhite, Grammy-winning producer is overseeing the sessions in Los Angeles, marking Matchbox Twenty’s first work with the renowned producer. His credits include the likes of The Rolling Stones, U2, Talking Heads, Peter Gabriel, Dave Matthews Band, and many more.
The band’s new tracks mark their first recordings as a foursome. They will be included on a retrospective hits collection entitled "Exile On Mainstream," which is said to be released on October 2.
The band’s last studio album called "More Than You Think You Are," was released in November 2002. The record earned Matchbox Twenty 2 Grammy nominations and 2 American Music Award nominations. According to Billboard magazine, the group ranked as the one of the Adult Top Forty Artist and one of the Modern AC Artist for 2003. During their last worldwide concert tour, the band played sold-out shows at 3 of the world’s greatest venues, including New York's Madison Square Garden, Los Angeles' Staples Center, and London's Wembley Arena. Matchbox Twenty reunited at the end of 2005 to perform at 2 special New Year’s shows in Las Vegas.
The band’s 3 albums to date have sold over twenty-eight million copies around the globe. Matchbox Twenty made their recording debut in 1996 with "YOURSELF OR SOMEONE LIKE YOU," followed by "MAD SEASON BY MATCHBOX TWENTY" in 2000, and two years later, "MORE THAN YOU THINK YOU ARE".
Matchbox Twenty has logged an extraordinary string of hit singles that include such chart-toppers as "Push," "3AM," "Back 2 Good," "Real World," "Unwell," "Disease," "Mad Season," "Bent," "If You're Gone,” and "Bright Lights."
The band’s frontman Rob Thomas is also busy promoting his debut solo album entitled “Something To Be” that hit stores on April 19.
