Musiq soulchild is a popular American neo soul as well as R&B artist. In 2001 he dropped “soulchild” from the name citing that he has not achieved mastery over his craft. He however again added the name in 2007 with the release of the song B.U.D.D.Y. he is also well known for his total disregard for spelling or grammar in the titles of his lyrics and albums.
His first hit single "Just friends" (sunny) was from his album “Aijuswanaseing”. This album was certified platinum.
"Love" was another single from this album. He released his second album in the year 2002. The album was titled "Juslisen". It also climbed the charts and reached #1. The tracks "Dontchange" and "Halfcrazy" did very well in the charts. "Soulstar" was his third album. There were hit singles like "Whoknows" and Forthenight" that was there in the album. The album was certified gold in the year.
After this he shifted to Atlantic Records which released the rest of his albums. His fourth album titled "Luvanmusiq" was certified gold and reached #1 in the charts in 2007. His fifth album is slated to release in 2008. He has featured on several music videos including "Rotten apple" by Lloyd banks; "Eardrum by Talib kweli; "The death of Willie lynch" by black ice. There is also a track from his recent album "Luvanmusiq" in the movie "Why did I get married" Besides music he has also appeared in many television and print ads. He was seen in ads for Nike, Coca-Cola, Levi Strauss & Co, The Gap, McDonald’s and Inc.
Musiq soulchild has received innumerable awards and nominations. There have been awards from soul train, authors and publishers, billboard, the American society of composers, BET, BMI. There have been nominations from the American music awards, the NAACP, MTV and four Grammy nominations.
