My Morning Jacket, MMJ started off in the city of Louisville, Kentucky as a band of two and worked with English Producer John Leckie. The rock band is now known all over America for their music which is a mix of Indie, country , psychedelic and jam band styles. After four years, they signed up with ATO Records. The origin of the band's name comes from a discarded coat that the lead, Jim James discovered while looking through the remains of a favorite bar which had burnt down. The label on the coat was “MMJ”.

Currently, the names of the other band mates are Patrick Hallahan, the drummer, Tom, the bassist, Carl Broemel, the guitarist and vocalist and Bo Koster the keyboard player. Their first performance was held in 1998 and included Jim James who played the guitar, “Two Tone” Tommy on bass, J. Glenn playing the drums and Johnny Quaid playing the guitar. Their debut album, “Tennessee Fire” was released in 1999 on the record label Darla Records.

An additional member Danny Cash came on in 2000. The next album, “At Dawn”, witnessed the loss of drummer J. Glenn who was replaced by Chris Guetig who was also subsequently substituded by Patrick Hallahan. Their next album was released in 2003 and it was titled “It Still Moves”. Quaid and Cash left the band in '04 and were substituted by Broemel and Koster. Other albums released by My Morning Jacket were Early Recordings Chapter 1, The Sandworm Cometh, Early Recordings Chapter 2, Learning and the well-acclaimed album called Z. The Z album showed the evolution of the band. They did not perform in 2007 so that they could rest and record a new album called Evil Urges which will be released in Mid-2008. The band is scheduled to perform at the Coachella Festival in April, 2008 and for the fifth time at the Bonnaroo music festival.
