Sister Hazel Background Information
Sister Hazel is a band from Gainesville, Florida that is heavily influenced by several musical genres like folk and southern rock and by alternative rock. Like most bands, Sister Hazel started off playing at several local pubs and bars. In 1994, Sister Hazel got their break at an event called Humblefest. The name of the band was adopted from Sister Hazel Williams, a woman who ran Sister Hazel's Rescue Mission during the 1970s and early '80s in Gainesville.
They released their debut album through their own independent record label namely Croakin' Poets. Their second album sold about 30,000 copies and very soon Universal Records absorbed the band. Somewhere More Familiar the group's second album was re-released along with bands second label release called Fortress and hits like "Change Your Mind", "All For You" and "Champagne High" reached the masses. However, in 2003 the band parted ways with Universal and released Chasing Daylight on Sixthman label. The band also toured heavily to promote it. Sister Hazel was released a two-disc live album and a live DVD named A Life in the Day.
The band wishes to release an acoustic album titled “Before The Amplifiers” on Croakin'Poets/Rock Ridge Music. The record features all the popular tracks from the band. The band has been featured in several movies as well as soundtracks and has also appeared on the Fleetwood Mac tribute album, Legacy: A Tribute to Fleetwood Mac's Rumours.
