Besides being a guitar great, Ted Nugent is also known for being an opinionated sort of a character remaining to be heavily and seriously involved in politics plus other organizations. In May 2005, Nugent was debating running for governor of Michigan. He withdrew from the race but it still considering running in 2010. An avid Republican, rumors had it that the Illinois Republican Party had him in mind for the 2004 senate race. He was born in Detroit, Michigan but moved south to Texas, near President George Bush’s ranch. He contributes weekly to the local paper, the Waco Tribune-Herald. He has written for more than 20 other publications and is the author of New York Times Bestseller God, Guns and Rock ‘n Roll (2000), Kill It and Grill It (2002), and BloodTrails II: The Truth About Bowhunting (2004). Ted Nugent is extremely anti-drug and anti-alcohol. He is the national spokesman for the D.A.R.E. program along with the National Field Archery Association, Mothers Against Drunk Driving, and the Big Brothers Big Sisters of America. He started the Ted Nugent Kamp for Kids, which stresses a schedule of hands on hunting, conservation, and a strong anti-drug message. To add his long list of organizations, he serves on the Board of Directors for the National Rifle Association. This busy man is now adding to his list of activities a fall music tour.
