The Story of Teena Marie

Teena Marie was born on the 5th of March, 1956 in California. She was named Mary Christine Brockert. She spent her early years in Los Angeles in a neighbor hood that had a high population of blacks. A job she got in 1977 in a record label company brought out her talent and in 1979 she released her debut album ‘Wild and Peaceful”. She had a legal battle with the record company and had to leave them in 1982 after releasing four albums under them. The court passed a judgment that is popularly referred to as the ‘Teena Marie law' up till date. At this time she wasn't financially stable yet or a professional musician.

She signed up with a new record label and they parted ways in 1984, because they felt her album was not generating sales. In the 1900's she worked very hard and was the first musician at that time to do a rap in one of her songs' square biz'. Teena Marie claim's her inspiration comes from William Shakespeare, Maya Angelon and Nikki Giovanni.

Teena Marie left the limelight for fourteen years and returned in 2004, with an album ‘'Ladona”, signing under the popular record label- cash Money Records. In 2005 she was nominated for best R & B female for her for Grammy Awards. Teena Marie also known as Lady T is a well known singer, song writer and producer in America. She is currently referred to as the queen of blue- eyed soul. She has twelve albums and twenty seven singles to her name. Teena Marie has just a daughter Alia Rose.
