Trans-Siberian Orchestra News

Trans-Siberian Orchestra at home in the States

Trans-Siberian Orchestra is a rock orchestra founded in New York City by rock producer, composer and lyricist Paul O’Neill with long time friends Robert Kinkel and John Oliva in 1996. The musical style of the group is also described as progressive rock, symphonic metal, power metal and heavy metal. This group is best known for its remakes of classical Christmas songs. Even though the style was not received warmly by the industry, it quickly proved a success with adults as well as young people. It is interesting that the group’s name derived from the Trans-Siberian Railway in Russia that connects many cultures otherwise isolated, much like the music. O’Neill produced such rock bands as Aerosmith, Humble Pie and Scorpions. While producing and writing with various rock groups for a number of years Paul was always seeking for better ways to make the greatest emotional impact that the music can produce. He tried to write the music that was melodic even without lyrics, and the lyrics that were so poetic that they didn't need music but when you put the two of them together, the sum of the parts would be greater than the whole.

While recording, Trans-Siberian Orchestra uses a full 60-piece orchestra and a choir. The first album Christmas Eve and Other Stories was released in 1996, and it remains their best-selling album. The second album with a christmas theme The Christmas Attic was released in 1998. In 2000, the group produced the first non-Christmas album, Beethoven's Last Night.

At present, Trans-Siberian Orchestra is working on a new non-Christmas album which will be titled Night castle. The  release of the new album is scheduled for October this year.
