Trey Anastasio and Phish

Trey Anastasio is both loved and hated amongst Phish fans for creating and destroying the band. Anastasio first conceived Phish in 1983 at the University of Vermont. The band played houses parties and it wasn’t until Anastasio transferred to Goddard College that he recorded and released The White Tape in 1987. He wrote his senior thesis, “The Man Who Stepped Into Yesterday” or “Gamehendge” that became the band’s second studio release with many of the songs having been incorporated into Phish’s repertoire. The group achieved much success with a following of fans akin to the Grateful Dead’s “Deadheads” Seeing Phish live was an amazing spectacle with band members playing vacuum cleaners, jumping on trampolines, an awe-inspiring light show, and the traditional audience-conceived glow stick war – not to mention all the crazy and Zappa-esque instrumental improvisations that came with a show. Unfortunately, the band went on a hiatus in August 2004 while band members went on to develop their side projects. After years of touring solo, Anastasio is back once again performing new and old material from Phish as well as original material. Meanwhile, Phish fans eagerly await a reunion.
