Camping World 300 is a 300-mile sports car race, which is considered the most important and popular racing event in National racing calendar. The race was held, for the first time, in 1948. For the next decade, the race was organized every year, under different names and series, at Beach Course racing venue. In 1959, the venue of race was shifted to Daytona International Speedway and is held at this circuit every year. By 2002, Camping World 300 was the only event being held at Daytona International Speedway that was part of Nationwide Series.
In 1959, Camping World 300 was known as Modified Sportsman Race. The drivers had to cover a distance of 200 miles. This race was part of the modified division and was shifted to NASCAR Late Model Sportsman Division. After several changes in its format, structure and name, it acquired its present state. The race was also considered a very dangerous event because of many fatal accidents and was condemned by many people.
