Camping World 300 is a 300-mile sports car race, which is considered the most important and popular racing event in National racing calendar. By 2002, Camping World 300 was the only event being held at Daytona International Speedway that was part of Nationwide Series.
In 1959, Camping World 300 was known as Modified Sportsman Race. The drivers had to cover a distance of 200 miles. This race was part of the modified division and was shifted to NASCAR Late Model Sportsman Division. After several changes in its format, structure and name, it acquired its present state. The race was also considered a very dangerous event because of many fatal accidents and was condemned by many people.
