2008 Coca Cola 600 Race InformationThe Coca Cola 600 was known as the World 600 until 1984 when its name changed. The course consists of 400 laps (600 miles) around the Lowe’s Motor Speedway in Concord, North Carolina and is held on Memorial Day Weekend. For 2008, this will be May 25 at 5 P.M. The race was usually held during the earlier times of the day but the fans made their voices known and asked for the race time to be pushed back to later in the evening to combat the humid weather of North Carolina. This time shift also gave the drivers participating in the Indianapolis 500 the right amount of time to fly into Concord and race in the Coca Cola 600 on the same day. In 2005, the state of Indiana adopted daylight savings time and stopped the problem of multiple races as the end of the Indianapolis 500 and the beginning of the Coca Cola 600 were now one hour apart. The Coca Cola 600 has a much larger television audience than the Indianapolis 500 has pulled in for the past few years.. Don’t be left out of this year’s competition! |
