Michigan State Basketball Background

The Michigan State Spartans basketball team is one of the athletic teams that represent Michigan State University. The Universitys sports program counts 22 kinds of sports teams, most of which were founded around the year 1885. The mascot of the basketball team and all other varsity teams is a Spartan warrior called Sparty, while the official school colors are green and white. The school takes part in the NCAA's Division I-A and in the Big Ten Conference. Michigan State University joined the Big Ten, the oldest Division I College Athletics Conference in the country, in 1950 and started playing in 1953. After joining the Spartans have had some great victories in the competitions. Michigan State University is unique in terms of being the only NCAA Division I Athletic program, which has multiple National Championships in both football and basketball. The university's present Athletics Director is Ron Mason. The Michigan State University has got a marching band, which plays the fight song for each university occasion, while both students and graduates sing the song.
