Villanova Wildcats basketball team is a representative of Villanova University, which is a private university situated in Radnor Township, Philadelphia. The school was founded by the Augustinian order. The campus is located near the Lancaster Avenue and Spring Mill Road. Villanova University is also the oldest and largest Catholic university in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
The teams present mascot is the Wildcat, however it used to be different, namely Day Hops and the Pelicans. The team takes part in the NCAA's Division I, as well as the Big East Conference. The Wildcats are also a member of the Philadelphia Big 5, which is an old Philadelphia area basketball rivalry. In terms of the 2006 college basketball season, the team is the last Philadelphia athletics team, which has won a victory in a major championship of any kind.
