Though the Clemson Tigers had a respectable record of 9 wins out 13 games in the 2007 season, it has not escaped the view of the fans that they ended the year with a New Years Eve loss to Auburn at the Chick-fil-A Bowl in Atlanta in the post season. They were ranked fifteenth nationally, all considered. In March of 2008, head coach Tommy Bowden announced that Andre Powell was named special teams coordinator, and he will be staying on as the runningback coach as well. Bowden has confidence that Powell can take on this added responsibility and shine.
The beginning of the 2009 season will arrive with Senior Jock McKissic going from defensive tackle to offensive tackle, Sadat Chambers returning to his freshman role of safety, Rendrick Taylor going from receiver to inside linebacker, and sophomore Mike Wade revisiting his role as quarterback from reserve safety. Bowden reports that there is an obvious learning curve, but that they had a good first practice despite the changes in position.
