Auburn Tigers Basketball
Maybe it’s the Beard-Eaves-Memorial Coliseum, or more likely it’s the great combination of coaching and players that Auburn is now boasting, whatever it is, they hold a 198-73 record in their home stadium in the past 20 years. As an original member of the
Southeastern Conference, established in December 1932, Auburn had a hard go-of-it during their first basketball seasons. They were not necessarily a bad team, but at the same time they were never a huge threat to any title crowns.

1949 brought change, in the form of former Tigers basketball player and new Head Coach Joel H. Eaves. From 1949 to 1963, he became Auburn’s all-time winning-est coach, establishing a 213-100 record. But his wins also came at just the right times, when they mattered most, eventually guiding the Tigers to their first
SEC Title in 1960.
Since then, the Tigers have searched to firmly establish themselves as a quality program. The 1980s brought them their first taste of NCAA Tournament play, when they qualified in back-to-back years (1985, 1986). They are 12-6 in NCAA Tourney play.
Now, in the 2008-2009 season, the Tigers return with an extremely balanced team. Their lineup consists of a gentle mélange of freshmen to seniors, and a well-seasoned head coach, Jeff Lebo, who is no stranger to wins and conference titles.
