Golden Bears College Basketball Information
The Cal Golden Bears represent their university in twenty-seven mens and womens sports, like baseball, basketball, crew, cross country, football, gymnastics, soccer, swimming and diving, golf, rugby, track and field, water polo, volleyball, and others. They participate in the Pacific Ten Conference and in the NCAAs (the National Collegiate Athletics Association) Division I. Some sports teams are the members of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation. The California Golden Bears are best known for their results in basketball, football, rugby, and baseball.

The California Golden Bears basketball team started playing professionally in 1907. In 1915 it first appeared in the Conference game. The team was very successful during the 1920s, and the games they played in those years are considered to be the best games for California basketball. They were awarded with six conference titles. With Nibs Price coach leading the team, the Golden Bears basketball players made great professional strides. In all, they won nine conference titles during a 30-year period with the mentioned head coach (from 1924 to 1954).
The California Golden Bears reached the top of their sports career beginning from 1955 and the following five years. They worked well winning the NCAA Championship and gaining four conference titles. After those five lucky years the Golden Bears were not able to reach the previous success and fell into decay. In 1960 the team one again came close to the NCAA final, but their rivals, the Ohio State, was a tiny bit stronger.
The following two decades can be called dormant, as the team did not distinguish itself on the professional basketball arena. The only ray of light the fans saw during the game with the Los Angeles Bruins, when the Bears defeated the rivals by 12 points.
Only in the 90s some changes happened. At last they qualified for the NCAA championships six times and they are hoping for the better.
The womens basketball team played the first game in 1973-1974 season. The team won during eleven seasons, and twice became the conference winner. In 90s they lowered the pace winning only thrice, but nevertheless they were not going to give up. The last, 2005-2006 season, was another one winning season for the lady Bears.
The California Golden Bears play at the Haas Pavilion, which is sometimes called the most intimidating playgrounds of all. The facility was called after Walter A. Haas, who donated a large sum of money for the Pavilions reconstruction. Its official seating capacity is almost twelve thousand spectators.
