The Colorado Buffaloes are sports teams, representing the University of Colorado at Boulder. The University was established in 1876 and opened its doors in 1877. It has a long athletic tradition and the Colorado Buffaloes is a remarkable sports team in the NCAA championships.

The Colorado Buffaloes basketball team is a notable athletic program of the University of Colorado. Originally the teams name was the Silver Helmets and then the Frontiersmen. And the Buffaloes name was devised by one of its students Andrew Dickson, who offered this name in the college newspapers contest. So, since 1934 the Colorado athletic teams are commonly known as the Colorado Buffaloes. This year the Colorados mascot also appeared. The official teams colors are silver and gold. They were chosen in 1888. These colors depict the main minerals of Colorado state. Though, since 1959, the Colorado teams have used gold and black colors on their official symbols, because silver and gold dont go together and seem to look dirty. The University men's basketball team played its first game in 1902. But the Buffaloes advanced and gained success only under Forrest B. Cox coaching.
