Creighton Blue Jays are an all-male college basketball team from the Creighton University. Creighton University is an exclusive Jesuit/Catholic college located at Omaha, Nebraska. The Creighton Blue Jays or "Jays" as they are also fondly called is American in origin and was officially established by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).
However, the term Creighton Blue Jays is used to represent all the athletic teams that represent the school, both male and female and also the team representatives of Creighton University as a group.
The school sports team also includes the other sports such as baseball, golf, soccer, tennis, etc. The Blue Jays Basketball team plays its home matches at the Quest center in Omaha which is the largest sport arena in the conference of Missouri Valley and the state of Nebraska as a whole. The arena seats 17,560 with an average of 15,909 fans attending their games last season.
The Creighton Blue Jays Men's Basketball team has been a part of the Missouri Valley Conference as an active member since the 1977/1978 playing season. In the years, prior to their Valley Conference membership, the basketball team was an independent form during 1948 and 1977. The head coach for the Creighton Blue Jays is Dana Altman and he has been head coach since the 1994/1995 season. They play all of their home games at Qwest Center Omaha, which can seat up to 17,560 fans. The Creighton Blue Jays won the AP National Champions in 1942 and they were the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament Champions in 1978, 1989, and 2007.
